Imagine paying $50 a month to get a few TV channels you want, amongst hundreds you don’t, just to view a few programs that interest you; all at a set time you have no control over. This has become the norm for watching TV, but things are changing. There are various internet products which are challenging cable TV and how we view content. The methods may differ, but these internet products and services provide consumers with an alternative viewing experience.

Possibly named One Box, Google looks to be partnering with iLike and LaLa (possibly others) to bring a US (at least) based music service. The details are not clear exactly what will be offered, if it’s a free Most Reliable Premium HD IPTV Streaming Service Subscription or music store, but the service is supposed to differ from the search-and-download music option Google created for China in 2008.
Other free streaming services build playlists based on artists, so users who want to listen to Coldplay may have to also listen to other artists with similar music. Spotify’s new free service allows users to solely listen to a single artist rather than just a few songs here and there.
Gaikai is essentially the same as OnLive, but it’s on a different platform and can literally be used by anyone with a computer and a browser. To Perry, it’s like comparing apples to oranges.

I have heard a rumor that Microsoft may eventually integrate the Kin with Windows Mobile 7 when it is released and then it would be possible to add apps to it. But for now the lack of apps is a highly negative factor.
DISH bought Blockbuster and hopefully will fix things. I have a DISH DVR, perhaps it will soon support Blockbuster streaming. Also, the studios seem to be working hard to dull Neflix’s dominance. The big recent news is Starz will be pulling content.
